How Healing Spaces came to be...
Healing Spaces was conceptualized in 2004 by Kat Powers. Sue, one of Kat's clients, was diagnosed with cancer for a second time. She had to leave for treatment at Dana Farber Institute just days after moving into her new home with her husband Dave. Kat realized that family members felt helpless in not knowing how assist Sue with her situation. While Sue was away, Kat suggested to her family that they work together to unpack and set up Sue’s new house. Together, under Kat’s direction, they created a nurturing space for Sue to return to and heal in. The family was thrilled to have been actively involved and able to make a difference together by painting, unpacking, arranging furniture and furnishings, making pillows, shower curtains and window treatments.
"My dream has always been to make a difference"
Kat Powers, Founder & Executive Director
Throughout the past 27 years I have been blessed with the ability to make a difference for so many families in their living spaces. Creating nurturing spaces that reflect their lifestyle, personality and interests, regardless of their budget or size of their space. It’s that creativity that helped me endure the tragic loss of a step daughter and, the loss of my beloved husband 3 years later. My creativity was also what I clung to through a divorce 12 years ago and as a single mom with a very demanding schedule.
